Abstract

Psychological wellbeing of the widowed based on influence of gender and perceived social support is the driving factor for this research. The study examined the influence of gender and perceived social support on psychological wellbeing of the widowed in northern Plateau State. A sample of 425 respondents participated in the study, and were drawn using purposive sampling technique. The design utilized for the study was a cross-sectional design and one (1) hypothesis was tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Result of the hypothesis revealed that there was no significant interaction influence of gender and perceived social support on the psychological wellbeing of the participants, mean scores of 12.59 (SE = 1.98), 15.21 (SE = 1.09), 15.16 (SE = .92) and 17.31 (SE = .96). The analysis yielded F(1, 413) = .032, p = .858. η2 <.001. The implication of this study is that gender together with perceived social support will not interactively influence the psychological wellbeing of the widowed in northern Plateau State.
